The current population is estimated at just over 45,000 residents.
The Colony is home to the 5 Star Athletic Complex and was named the Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sports Town of The United States in 2003.
The city is home to Pizza Inn’s corporate headquarters and a variety of small and medium-sized businesses. Convenience shopping is available at several retail centers. Nearby employers include JC Penny’s Corporate, Frito-Lay, HP and numerous others in Legacy Park of Plano.
Austin Ranch in The Colony is a mixed-use development consisting of retail businesses, apartments and condominiums. It is located on the southeast side of the city, across from Sam Rayburn Tollway.
