Prosper TX – true to its name – has prospered in recent years, growing quickly in terms of new home construction priced from $150,000 to $2,000,000 + range. As of 2000, there were 2,097 people; current population is around 11,500.

Until recently, Prosper was considered a small rural town on Preston Road and SH 380, with limited access to retail shopping. Widening of Preston Road between Prosper and Frisco, and 380 to McKinney, has given easy access abundant shopping and services in neighboring towns.
Prosper recently added retail establishments, bank and buildings for office and medical including Sonic, Exxon, Palios, Ernestos, Subway, Pizza Hut, Rice Pot, Firestone, Discount Tire.
Each May, Prosper Founders Fest celebrates the history, people and arts. The event combines the Prosper Fire Department’s IBCA-Sanctioned Barbecue Cookoff, a 5K race through the Prosper area, an Art show and Music Festival and a Sunday Family Fellowship. The Sunday event is unique in that 80% of Prosper Families attend local churches.
Well-known residents include Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Torii Hunter, pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, and former Dallas Cowboys football player Deion Sanders who own large parcels of land.
